About us

H.A.R.P

HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE REAL PEOPLE TOO

Real solutions to homelessness involve real people dedicating real time and resources to make a difference in a person’s life.  The challenge an individual living in a state of homelessness face can seem legion and more than any one person can help overcome.  But when members of a group come together to aid an individual, those challenges are faced not by one or two, but many whose drive and focus to help suddenly face legion with a host of solutions.

Our Mission Statement:

To offer resources that prevents and end homelessness, to support the recovery, health, faith, and independence of those who have a history of homelessness.  To raise awareness about the root causes of these life risks, to serve everyone with respect, integrity, and grace.  To continue to learn, grow, and excel in our services; to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us by our supporters; to reflect the teaching of Jesus and the love of God in all we do.

H.A.R.P. feels that empowering the homeless to advocate for themselves for change is important and necessary.

H.A.R.P   also recognizes the relationship that we have with Rita Landgraf, Secretary of Health and Social Services who has shown support and assistance when called upon for help as well as her staff.   And although H.A.R.P. has this outstanding relationship with Secretary Landgraf, H.A.R.P. strongly feels that a Sensitivity Program designed by the homeless and former homeless is strongly encouraged.   H.A.R.P. has seen a sharp increase in complaints about State Social Service workers and it needs to be addressed, and who better than the ones who are affected?

H.A.R.P. has been working on the issue of increased police presence in Downtown Wilmington and Rodney Square.   We believe that those areas should be safe for everyone, including the homeless.   We will monitor the police to make sure that homeless people are not being profiled or harassed, the homeless in the Downtown area.   We wish to work with the Wilmington Police in regards to the homeless.   H.A.R.P. has reached out to politicians, state and city officials.

H.A.R.P. received the President's Award from The Wilmington Chapter of The N.A.A.C.P for its community dedication for those in need.
